Lisa Cook Challenges Trump’s Mortgage Fraud Allegations in Legal Battle
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook's legal team has dismissed President Donald Trump's allegations of mortgage fraud as baseless, describing them as a "cut-and-paste" effort to justify her removal. The filings emphasize Trump's lack of valid grounds for firing Cook "for cause," pointing to social media posts by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte and a DOJ referral as insufficient evidence.
Cook's lawyers argue the allegations were cherry-picked to provide political cover for removing a Board member with opposing policy views. Similar claims were made against California Senator Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The lawsuit seeks to block the termination, framing it as an overreach of executive authority.
